Hoi Karin, ja Mark vertoont dezelfde verschijselen als jij in Tanzania. Hij vond al dat je het goed had ingeschat.

Erik, of course you will keep things running, but it is you that keep us running over here because the maps are working just fine, thanks for that.

Last night we had dinner at the "Happy Burger diner" it could't get more American than that for me. We both had a burger of course but we had water with the burger so it was't all together authentic.

After a good night sleep in a bed!! we left for our 2nd day into Yosemite NP. I thought we had lots of abbreviations but here they beat us to it. We had a nice drive through the valley and up the south side slope leaving the Merced river behind us. The scenery is breath taking and on some patches workers were clearing snow with machines I have never seen before. We'll put some pictures on the site and hope it reflects just enough to the real thing to let you enjoy with us.

At the south end of Yosemite we came across giant sequoias in Mariposa grove. These trees are so tall that the food and water does not rich the top. Therefor sequoias don't have a peek at the top, the top part dies leaving them just as tall as Redwood trees. It is hard to take a picture that shows the enormous diameter of the trunk, but we tried. We took a two hour hike to even bigger trees than there were in the car park, check out the photos.

After the tree's we went of to Fresno, as we declined from about 1700 meters to the plains leading to Fresno it got hotter. We got at the hotel at 4 o clock, checked in and made for the next door International House of Pancakes, in short IHOP. This is a typical American restaurant and meals are served with pancakes. Mark ordered a stake omelet and I had a bacon omelet with avocado, both served with pancakes of course. We did't have lunch at all and after the hike we could eat a horse. But this meal, which is actually supposed to be breakfast, filled us up nicely. The waitress even offered me a box for the pancakes. As I sometimes have problems with understanding the pronunciation I buggered up the box question, but Mark and I had a laugh about it after the waitress left.

After having a tot of Mark's nice Jameson Irish whiskey, as we do every night, we will turn in early. Tomorrow is going to be a tough but interesting day passing through Death Valley NP on our way to Las Vegas on a more than 750km trip.

As they say here, have a good one!

PS. For those who think it is stupid to say "how are you" which is the way of greeting each other in South-Africa, can consider that as a training to maybe go to California. Even people just passing in the street greet like this over here.
