Palm Springs to Santa Maria

A strange thing happened this morning: Marks phone woke us but one hour early. Traveling from Arizona to California we entered another time zone and we had to turn our clocks back one hour. This morning Marks phone was turned forward one hour, but fortunately Mark remembered that day light savings time starts on the 2nd Sunday of March. So actually we had an hour less sleep than we thought. No wonder we were still half asleep.
This morning we left Palm Springs, we drove quietly until Mark asked me how I was. I replied that the cold I got at Bryce Canyon is getting worse, sneezing, headache, running nose, everything that comes with a cold. I asked Mark how he was, he replied, I am just tired and silently we drove on. Funny thing to drive amongst the windmills that is associated with home and now out here in the desert.
As we approached Los Angeles we ran into a dust storm or is it smog or fog, we could not make up our minds. It took us a while to get past Los Angeles but somewhere halfway through LA Mark found us another cheapest gas station around, hurray for apps. We filled up and made it for the freeway again.
After a while we saw our first glimpse of the great Pacific Ocean. But with the cloudy sky and fog there is not to much to see. We stopped at a park in Santa Barbara, and for being Sunday today we see people cooking and bbqing lunch in the park. We saw pelicans floating on the updraft against the cliffs as well as seagulls and the ever present raven.
We drove on, with the sea to our left and the wineries to our right. I am feeling very Dutch now but a little more sun would be nice to lighten up the landscape. We arrived at our last, most expensive and biggest hotel on the trip. Mark had to make a photo of the hallway and our room is not even at the end of the hallway.
Tomorrow we will be on a coastal drive to Marks apartment in Menlo Park.
PS. Trucks like the one on yesterdays photo easily overtake you when your doing 120 km/h, that is in Arizona. In California they have got to keep to a lower speed limit. We saw an RV (Recreational Vehicle) towing a SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle). One can say it is a camper towing a car but both sized up to bigger standards.

Jullie avontuur in het wilde westen loopt alweer op z'n eind. Voor Mark nu een beetje voorbereiden op de tijdelijke terugkeer naar Nederland. Alhoewel het hier geen Wild westen is voel ik me wel alsof ik door een rodeo stier omvergelopen ben (maar dat komt omdat ik met Jeroen en Alex gatraind heb :P). Tot snel! Wij halen jullie op!

Ben, vandaag hoorde ik dat het goed gaat met je auto. Hij stond voor je huis. Zo zie je maar weer. Someone is watching you! (Uit je eigen team) Man, wat weer een mooie reis. Geniet nog voor een paar dagen en zie je volgende week in ons kleine kikkerlandje. Dan wil ik de verhalen wel weer horen, en zal ik je bijpraten over de ontwikkelingen aan deze kant van de plas.
