Day two and three Palo Alto

Saturday morning we went to have coffee at Arthur and Marleen's place. It was "gezellig" and we had an American style cake, I forgot the name. (Lemon Meringue)
After the coffee we went to buy hiking shoes for Mark and Jeroen.
We filled the afternoon at the computer history museum. We were to late for the Babbage demonstration but just in time for the PDP-1 demo. The PDP-1 was the first transistor computer at MIT. This was the year 1961 and the two volunteers demonstrating the machine were the original operators back then. They ran two programs they programed back then, a four harmony music program and a rocket shooter game whit the sun's gravity pulling on the two rocket ships.
Every thing from the slide rulers to mechanical calculators, Babbage machines, punch card data prosessing, IBM, DIGITAL, Wang, Apple Microsoft, Atari, Sinclair, Commodore, well too much to mention, or to see for that matter. We had to hurry to leave before closing time.
Day three first thing in the morning we took our car to the rental company. We heard a loud noise at the rear left weel, like a worn weel bearing, and we don't want to risk it on the coming trip. The trade off was well worth it, apart from sounds of a healthy car, the seats were an improvement.
We drove off on highway 280 north bound, to go for a hike to a waterfall that falls into the Pacific ocean. We passed through San Francisco and over the Golden gate bridge into a mountainous area where hundreds of houses are stuck to the slopes. We parked the car and went off on the 9 mile hike through rugged mountain trails. These were rocky trails and Jeroen did more than half the hike barefoot. Respect for his persistance.
Afterwards we went to a restaurant in San Francisco. Mark's colleague had made just the right recommendation for our needs, good food quickly served.
