The next morning we drove to Yellowstone. Just after entering the gate we saw some Elk (well thats my conclusion) grazing on the other side of a stream.
We also saw Bison and squirrels, but despite our best tracking efforts, we couldn't find a single bear. Lots of action on ground level, steamy, muddy and watery areas around the park. The Yellowstone river canyon offers spectacular views and flows out of the, at this moment frozen, Yellowstone lake.
Part of the park is in a caldera. After a massive volcanic eruption a caldera is formed when the volcanic crater walls collapse into the crater. The caldera rim is shown on a map, but does not stand out in the midst of all the hills and mountains. Most of the thermal activity is within the rim, but steam is coming out of the earth far outside the rim. It seems that every year, people die because they neglect the signs not to step outside the paths or approach wildlife. The thin crust at the thermal vents can easily crack and break. Boiling hot water is not a good place to be. As for the wildlife, when too close, bison can charge and gore you. The warnings indicate that this happens every year.
Well a picture says more then thousand words so check out the photos. See link
